Mold Facts:- Allergic reactions to mold are common.
- Mold is actually a fungus.
Our air purifiers (help me choose) will help with each of these triggers however here are some extra steps you can take that should help.
About Mold - Mold is a fungi that requires a food source (ie wallpaper, drywall, etc) and a certain level of moisture or humidity to grow. Mold spores spread through the air.
Source Control - the first step is remove the source of mold and that is typically a water leak or build up of moisture. Ventilation also plays a key role with the idea being to bring in fresh dry air. An air purifier will not remove the source of mold but they can help to significantly clean the mold from the air so you can breathe and feel better. HEPA air purifiers are commonly used by mold remediation specialists in the cleanup of toxic mold to capture airborne mold spores. Ideally you want to keep your relative humidity between 35%-50% and a dehumidifier may be needed.
Molds produce allergens, irritants, and in some cases, potentially toxic substances (mycotoxins). Contact with mold, either breathed in or touched can produce eye or nose irritation in some people while others may suffer an asthma attack.
